Now we are talking – 002
Desk accessories, travel publications, mind-bending shows, quick presentations and augmented reality whales.
Hey there,
Before I dive into this week’s favourite, I want to properly introduce myself. Give you an idea of who is behind this experiment and these recommendations. Let’s do it quickly, so you don’t feel the pain.
Behind a confident façade, hides a very shy woman who, over the years, has been accumulating knowledge and taste to counteract her lack of self-confidence. As one side of the equation has improved, the other has remained untouched. And maybe as a way of self-defence (in case my confidence goes down again), I still keep records of all the things I see and admire from my life.
Working as a designer and connecting with creatives and tech people on a daily basis only encourages this side of me. And although my taste is not as refined as other people's, I’m quite proud of the middle-ground I consistently find myself at.
I rarely share my discoveries with anyone, and my lists keeps getting messier and messier. Sometimes, a friend will approach me, asking what I am reading or watching at the moment and I won’t know what to say.
If you are that friend, this is your place.
Let’s see what’s happened this week.
What made me say QUE?!
iA Presenter
The presentation tool of the future
I don’t enjoy making presentations. It’s not like I have to do many, but still. It’s time I could spend doing something else.
So when the iA team gave me an invite to try the Beta of their new product Presenter, which they claim can create presentations out of your notes, I immediately took it. And yes, it is as good as it sounds.
The product itself is a text based editor using markdown to understand each part of your copy. You can start with any writing you have, organize it in paragraphs, and it creates slides from that. Not only it’s quick and easy, but the end result is extremely nice. You can lay it out in columns, add pictures and your own style, and no one will be able to tell the difference.
To my wish-list
Ugmonk
Desk Accessories
If you think Analog should be the only way to organize tasks and improve your productivity, you are going to LOVE this. Ugmonk recently launched a Kickstarter campaign for Gather, a magnetic organization system for your desk. As clever as beautiful.
The system includes things like a phone, laptop and monitor stand, trays or pencil cup. The variety and flexibility that this modular system offers is so aesthetically pleasant, that I wouldn’t mind reorganizing my whole office around it. Just take a look.
Obviously, they have reached their goal, but you can still back their campaign, and get some of the rewards.
And since you asked, my choice that goes straight into my wish list is The Complete Gather Collection in white and maple.

Watching
1899
Saying anything about this show would be spoiling it. Or would it? Because I’ve just finished season 1, and I’m not 100% I can explain what I’ve seen.
Regardless of that, this is a brilliant mind-bending show, about some people on a ship with traumatic pasts who have all the rights to be suspicious. And after finding another ship that had been lost for months, things start to get weird.
From the people who made me draw very complicated family trees with Dark, Jantje Friese & Baran bo Odar.
Reading
Not actually a book, but the way it is written should be counted as literature. In case you’ve never heard about it, Fare Magazine is a publication that runs twice a year; each number focuses on a city, highlighting the culture through the intersection of food, history, and community.
You can tell it is guided by locals of each city in the way it’s written, without the haste of a tourist or visitor. As well as beautifully written text, it includes photographies and illustrations, all put together with a curated creative aesthetic.
Since I’ll be visiting Kyoto soon, I wanted to have an intro into the city. Something that is not titled “10 things you must do in Kyoto”.

Work and projects
After two years of not doing any work for Instagram, I was hired to do a brief project for Disney+, promoting some of the shows with AR effects.
I got to work primarily on The Secret of the Whales effect, and this is the result.
That’s it for this week. See you next time!
